Making history

Regg introduced the topic of spring engagements; I'm going to continue it.

Today is my twenty-fourth birthday. Today I make history: I am the first Reinhard male of my line to NOT get engaged at age 23 in three generations. Grandpa did. Dad did. Michael, Mark, and my cousin Jeremy did. I'm not sure about my uncles--since I'm not descended from them, it doesn't really matter.

So...I think I'm kind of proud about that, or something. I guess it just makes me a bigger loser than the rest--but I can live with that.

Disappointing season

In my last post I noted that I was going to the Single Focus Weekend thingee and was a bit worried. Well, it seems my fears are all for naught as it is being rescheduled for later. I don't know what the deal is, but I can only guess that it is the result a drastic decline in the prospective single folks out there. Oh, wait, this engagement season has been ridiculously quiet. Maybe I just don't have the connections that I used to have-essentially a roommate from Bluffton to tell me of every cradle that is robbed. I am strangely not that saddened. About not getting the news, not the roommate thing (except for Bryan, he's married).

On to other, more interesting information. I heard the most dreadful spiritual analogy on the radio this morning. They compared the Nintendo Wii to and the action games that can be played to the fact that we need to have an "active faith." I mean, if they are that low on good spiritual analogies I could do freelance or something. The bottom line is that I need to go out and get a Wii and some games so that I can be a better Christian. Apparently, all good Christians know what a Wii is and are quite apt at playing. Also, I guess the better you are at hitting virtual baseballs with an electronic baseball bat, the better you are at actually helping those who don't have food or shelter. I guess that makes sense somehow... Like by spending money on a Wii and games we boost the economy and encourage growth which then allows for more jobs which these poor folk can then take, if the job isn't shipped out of the country first. It makes sense in the end. Active Faith, gentlemen, active faith.

Notre Dame, the Basilica plummet

The end of the school year is about to hit me like a load of bricks. As a student, I could always tell when the end of the year was coming. There was the sudden easing of the workload and the glorious prospect of time off.

As a teacher, the end of the year is suddenly packed with all sorts of odd, spare minutes, where if the students don't have their minds completely focused in the classroom they are completely crazy. You try to cram every minute of the day with activities or something, but somehow you still end up with a low scale teenage riot on your hands. Grrrr. Maybe that's what the headaches from.

On to other, possibly, disastrous news. This weekend I head to Roanoke for my first ever, out of college, young group thingee. Single Focus Weekend. A glorified term for Get 'Em Married Off Weekend. It should be interesting. I think that it is really just a good, well, unfortunate excuse to get to Illinois to see the Grandparents, but who knows maybe this will prove to be some great, amazing weekend that I never really expected. You should all come. Well, all you cool single people anyway.

In other disasterous news, Ben I heard the Basilica at Notre Dame lost a spire in the storm. Does that mean God doesn't favor Notre Dame anymore? Are you considering a move to a more favored university? Surely the entire campus was shut down for the day, no? I can only assume from these recent events that God's righteous judgment has been spoken and somehow, for some sacreligious reason, Notre Dame has fallen. Maybe, Ben, you could enlighten us. That might prove to be fun, entertaining, and, possibly, something worth posting. As we all know as perfect little AC's the bottom line is simply "the Catholics are wrong." How can you fight that kind of logic? No, really, how can you?

new post, nothing to say

I have, really, nothing to say. I just felt bad for Regg and his endless cycle of babble and increasing isolation. So: Regg, you're not alone in the universe. Some people read. Some may even care.

I'm only kidding, of course. I'm sure 100 middle schoolers a day is very taxing.

I am now done with my first year at ND--not that it means much, as I've got summer classes and summer work. But it's a nice thought.

By the way...anybody else see Spidey 3? Anybody else vaguely disappointed by it?

Man, I'm lame. Comes from having nothing to say.

Tickled by the devil's pitchfork and more...

I has been two weeks since I started this new blogging craze of mine and not a single of the "Cool Guys" has responded to anything that I have written. Not Seth, or even Bryan-who by definition of the name isn't cool anymore. Therefore, I will have to accept my fate and the fact that, although I have a bunch of eighth graders amazed at my athletic prowness, I am simply not that fasinating and the life of a teacher is likewise uninteresting. Which leads to another point...

While on some days I leave the middle school in a haze of delirium and headache, there is the simple fact that I don't have a normal day at school. I also find that this cannot really be understood by someone who doesn't deal with 100 adolescents on a daily basis. It just can't be described. Yeah, I may respond the same way to that dreaded question, How was your day today?, with the same response, something along the lines of-fine, alright, or not too bad. I think that response is really out of the inablity to completely convey the true extent of the day that you have had. People don't understand that 1st period could be acting as if the devil's pitchfork was tickling their ears, but second period was like a chocolate covered chocolate drop, and then don't get me started on 3rd period because I think they escaped from the prison in down by the Grissom Air Force base. So goes a day in the life of a teacher and what is a person supposed to do?

I don't know either. At least my days are never dull and I am actually enjoying myself. I just keep wondering how the heck there can be only 18 days left in the school year. yipes! that went fast, real fast.

gotta go, more discus tonight. yippee.
